Jazz Age Lawn Party 2011...

I had a great weekend.  I don't usually write on my personal activities but I could not pass on the chance to write about this past weekend.
Sunday was the last day the Jazz Age Lawn Party which was being held at Governors Island located on the southern tip of Manhattan.  This event was hosted by Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra.  Attendees were encourage to dress in time period attire.  I was so excited with all the anticipation of all the lovely outfits I would get to see.  We hit rain on our way into the city and I was afraid it would be cancel,  but as soon as we arrived  it cleared up.  On the ferry ride into the Island I got to see many lovely people and their wonderful outfits.  This was my very first time being on Governor's Island and I had no idea of the exact location of the lawn party, but we just followed all wonderfully dressed people and finally made it to the exact location.  There were a few points of entry into the party, all you had to do was wait in line.  The admission fee was $10.00 per person at "the door". My hubby got our passes through Daily Candy, which included: admission, lunch, drinks and dance lessons which where on first come first serve basis.  Unfortunately we arrived after the dance lessons were about to finish, so I did not get a chance to take advantage of the dance lessons, maybe next year!  We decided to walk around and take a look at all the lovely vendors.  I was like a kid at a candy store or toy store for that matter!

Odd Twin...
Our first stop was the wonderful set up of  Odd Twin, which is owned by the lovely Francesca Neville.  I love her sign and you could not miss it.  She had a wonderful array of clothing rolling racks filled with vintage clothing. Her tables were filled with a fantastic selection of jewelry, bags, sunglasses and hats.  I wish I would have taken more pictures to show of all her wonderful things.  If you are ever in New York, make sure to take a ride to the Park Slope section in Brooklyn to visit her store located at 164 5th Avenue at Degraw Street.  She has a wonderful collection of men's and women's vintage clothing ranging from the 1920's to 1980's, jewelry, accessories, baby vintage clothing and home items. The best thing is that she has hand selects all the items she sells in her store! If you can't make it into Brooklyn, you can always visit her at her website at http://www.oddtwin.com/, but trust me there is nothing better than to see all these wonderful items up close and in person!

The Original Prohibition Clothing Company...
The next stop was The Original Prohibition Clothing Company, which is own by the very talented Corey Miller the designer of all their wonderful creations!  I met his lovely wife who was nice enough to answer my question regarding their licencing agreement on certain prints on their newsboy caps.  She was also so sweet in telling us about the history of certain people featured on their newsboy caps.  I love their merchandise set up; the wooden clothing rolling rack featuring fabrics and men's trousers and the table with the wooden crates featuring their logo with the newsboy caps and t-shirts display on top of them.  Did I mention the  lovely selection of ties, caps and t-shirts featured on their main table.  Once again I should have taken more pictures to show off their wonderful work! Their official website opening is on October 2011, for now you can visit them on their temporary pop up eBay shop found here.

Fine And Dandy Shop...
Our next stop was the lovely Fine And Dandy Shop  featuring men's accessories; everything from men's bow ties, scarves, sock garters, pocket squares, handkerchiefs, cuff links, socks and leather trim portfolios just to mention a few.  I love the hat set up around a tree, what a creative way to display their hats!  The picture I took does not do them justice.  Did I mention how much I love their sign, it had the current sales written with chalk, how very  pretty!  For an even bigger selection of items, make sure to visit the online shop at http://www.fineanddandyshop.com/.  You will find neck wear, pocket squares, handkerchiefs, socks, hats, sock garters, suspenders, arm bands, jewelry, wallets, flasks, grooming items and books. The online shop has a look book and a complimentary consultation for any fashion dilemma.  If you live in NYC, the online shop has emergency delivery service, for those days you might have forgotten an event you need to attend or a day when you have a fashion emergency!  Did I mention how sweet the guy behind the table was?  He even smile for the picture!  Make sure to visit the blog, tumblr and facebook  page you won't regret it!

Noble Savage Vintage...
Our next stop was the oh so lovely Noble Savage Vintage , I first came across a wonderful selection of vintage clothing display on a rolling rack.  I immediately fell in love with a silk embroidered waist and all around crochet neck trim blouse with buttons going down the back.  What an awesome feeling knowing that I had an authentic 1920's garment on my hand, the history this blouse holds!  I kept looking through the rolling rack and found a simple yet beautiful 1920's cotton lace embroidery slip dress, oh so pretty! The entire rolling had wonderful garments.  I went back and took pictures, but these pictures do not do these garments justice.  I kept hearing girls debate about what items to choose from, the selection was to die for! I went around the rolling rack and came across a beautiful section of handbags.  Heather Ramey the shop owner was telling and showing my husband how some of these vintage bags from 1920's were made of enamel mesh, steel and  chain nail. I've never seen bags made of this material, the craftsmanship was phenomenal! What talent! I was also in love with her selection of jewelry.  I should have taken more close up pictures! Did I mention the pink silk t-strap evening shoes, so pretty!  You definitely have to check out her collection of items feature on Ruby Lane.  If you want to contact her she can be reached via email at NobleSavageVintage@gmail.com

 The Village Scandal...
Our next stop was The Village Scandal, I immediately noticed a pearl and beaded strand necklace with black velvet ribbon ties, it was so pretty!  I love their different business cards display through out their table.  The table had a lovely selection of men's and women's original hats! The selection also included earrings, necklaces, sunglasses, rings, bow ties and headpieces! You can find some of their creations on http://thevillagescandal.com. Their store is located on 19E. 7th St. New York, NY 10003 (between 2nd & 3rd Ave.) They have great hours Monday - Saturday: Noon to Midnight, Sunday: 1pm to Midnight.  Make sure to visit, you won't regret it!

Ellen Christine Millinery...
Our very next stop was Ellen Christine Millinery, she had a lovely selection of her magnificent creations of  hats and fascinators.  I fell in love with a lovely headpiece with all hand sewn jewels with antique beading,  the final touch was a pretty colorful feather.  This item could be used as a headpiece or as a brooch pin.  What a beauty! A few girls kept trying on hats and fascinators, they looked so pretty in them.  So I asked to take their picture.   As I kept looking around, I found a lovely hat with feathers and mesh fabric, it was to die for!  I'm not doing the hat any justice with my simple description of it, you would have to see it for yourself.  To see more of Ellen's magnificent work check her out on facebook, her page is so pretty!

Next to Ellen Christine's table , I came across a wonderful display of jewelry, a table with more hats, men's vests and a rolling rack of real pretty vintage clothing.  I forgot to ask Ellen if these items belong to her too.  I found a pretty vintage cotton top and a beautiful 1920's orange dress.  Oh so pretty!

All this walking around made my hubby hungry, so we headed towards the food line to get something to eat.  The cocktails were on our way to the food line, so I stopped to get two cocktails for myself, the cocktails were served by  St. Germain Liqueur, yummy! I also managed to get some shots of some lovely outfits.

After lunch we made it to the dance floor, to watch the dancers and to take more pictures of lovely outfits along the way.  We met some very lovely people and everyone was so nice in allowing me to take their picture.  Hope to see them again next year!

Worth & Worth Hat Shop...
Our next stop was Worth & Worth Hat Shop, what amazing creations! I love their vintage sewing machine and their merchandising sign  featuring men in their hats! Their display of hats was very pretty, they also had a binder featuring their different styles. Their other table featured supplies to make the hats.  You can visit them at http://www.hatshop.com/ or at their store located at 45 West 57th Street Suite 602 New York, NY 10019.

We kept walking and taking pictures of people and their lovely outfits.  We also came across a table featuring a colorful display of shoelaces and paper umbrellas.

The Dorothy Parker Society...
Our final stop was at The Dorothy Parker Society this society does not have any fees, no meetings only parties and if you are interested you can sign up for their newsletter for their upcoming events! Their website is http://www.dorothyparker.com/. Here's  a lovely picture of daddy and son from the Dorothy Parker Society, they had a lovely pose, but I missed it!

Hubby and I kept walking and taking more pictures of lovely people. The dance floor got to crowded, everyone was taking pictures of the fashion show.  Of course being as short as I am, I was unable to capture any good shots! I was tire at this point and  we got out of the lawn and went to find a place to sit on.  We found some concrete benches and  we were looking into the dance floor.  We were here for a while just enjoying our time together.  The weather started to change and before we knew it it started pouring!  We ran for cover and left after the rain stopped.  I had a wonderful time and I can't wait for next year!
